Winter Wonderland the First Two Fridays in December !
December 5 & 12, 2014 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm both evenings

Get ready to light up the holidays with an expanded celebration in Historic Downtown Franklin, North Carolina. This year’s Winter Wonderland events has been expanded to the first two Friday nights in December!

“Each year the Franklin Main Street Program strives to make each of our festivals better and this year is no different,” said Linda Schlott, Franklin Main Street Program Executive Director. “Winter Wonderland is a great, family oriented celebration of the holiday season, so we have combined our tree lighting ceremony with two additional weekends to truly focus on the holiday experience in Franklin.”

“On both December 5th and 12th festivities will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in Historic Downtown Franklin,” Schlott continued.

This year’s schedule of activities includes ice artist Ryan McCurdy from Asheville, NC. McCurdy and crew will create a special slide made of ice for the young and young at heart to enjoy. “This is a working slide and takes the crew around three hours to setup,” said McCurdy. “We’re sure all of the kids attending this winter festival will enjoy it.” The free rides on the ice slide will begin at 5:00pm.

Free wagon rides will also be offered both nights. The bright red wagon will be decked out for the holidays and will give those riding a whole new perspective on the evening’s activities as they tour Historic Downtown Franklin. The free wagon rides will be offered beginning at 5:00 pm and run until the end of the event. Riders will board at Town Hall.

Roxy the miniature horse will also be back in action offering free rides to youngsters throughout the event at Franklin Town Hall. Keep in mind, those wishing to ride Roxy can weigh no more than 80 pounds.

The Franklin Chamber of Commerce will have its 2nd Annual Gingerbread House Competition. The gingerbread houses that were entered will be on display in the lower level of Franklin Town Hall both nights of Winter Wonderland. Winners will be prominently displayed. For information on the Gingerbread display contact the Franklin Chamber of Commerce by calling (828) 524-3161.

The second night of Winter Wonderland, December 12th, will also feature special music in the Chapel of Franklin's First Baptist Church from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Hear music from The Caroline's, Vintage, Men Macon Music, First Presbyterian Church Choir, Mountain Mist and more.

Downtown Franklin Merchants will also get in on the holiday fun. Stores will be open late offering great shopping plus free refreshments including hot cider and delicious treats for their patrons. In addition, many will have living window displays depicting different scenes of the holiday season.

“We’ve worked hard to create an event that celebrates not only the holidays but the winter season,” Schlott continued. “This is a great family event and we look forward to seeing visitors from all over the area here in Franklin, North Carolina for Winter Wonderland beginning the Friday after Thanksgiving.”

Winter Wonderland is sponsored by the Franklin Main Street Program, Town of Franklin, Franklin TDA, and Macon County TDC.
